A professor at Fordham University in the Bronx has been terminated after showing off his “woke” credentials to students in order to excuse himself from mixing up the names of two black students.
“A former lecturer in the English Department, Christopher Trogan, was terminated by Fordham on Oct. 25 after a series of communications with students that stemmed from an incident where he confused the names of two Black students,” The Fordham Observer, the school’s newspaper, said.
Trogan taught a class called Composition II in the English Department.
According to the paper, Trogan sent a series of communications to students to prove to students after the incident that he was not a racist.
“The offended student assumed my mistake was because I confused that student with another Black student,” he reportedly said in an email to his students. “I have done my best to validate and reassure the offended student that I made a simple, human, error. It has nothing to do with race.”
He also called it an “innocent mistake,” and blamed his “confused brain.”
But further in the email, Trogan listed his “woke” credentials, saying that his career was “centered specifically and explicitly around issues of justice, equality, and inclusion” and that he had devoted his “entire life” to social justice. He also reportedly listed “everything he has done for minorities” in the email.
For the latter messaging, Trogan was deemed to have a “white savior complex.”
Eva Badowska, Fordham’s Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Associate Vice President of Arts and Sciences, placed Trogan on leave two days after the email was sent.
He was later terminated, but not for the original mixup of the two black students’ names. Rather, he was fired for his subsequent groveling about his social justice resumé.
Neither Badowska nor Fordham University immediately responded to The Star News Network’s comment requests.
